Many thanks to JJ Hanley for being the featured speaker at our September Friday Forum and for helping us kick off our Educational Outreach programming for 2016-2017.
JJ’s presentation, “Preparing for Meaningful Integration into the Workplace and Community”, focused on the importance of employment as a means to achieving full access and incorporation into the larger community. She discussed the role that commitment and motivation play in finding and keeping a job as well as the Employment First initiative and how it impacts the current business landscape.
JJ is Associate Director of Ventures for the Chicago-area disability service organization, Search, Inc., where she directs No Boundaries — Train for Work, Train for Life, a first-of-its-kind workplace training program for adults with disabilities, and where she directs a new employment services program for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
She is also Founder and Director of jjslist.com, a disability awareness resource for businesses and consumers that reaches more than 100,000 people online each month.
In addition, JJ directs the Disability Awareness Players who, since 2009, have trained more than 4000 staff members of businesses and organizations in how to interact confidently and comfortably with customers, employees and potential hires who have disabilities. Training clients include Siemens Corporation, Northern Trust, Whole Foods, the Brookfield Zoo, the Harris Theater, the Shedd Aquarium, Baxter Healthcare and Discover Financial Services.
Friday Forum events are presented in partnership with the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) and are made possible in part by a grant from Palatine Township and the Rotary Club of Palatine. Thank you for your support!
