We wrapped up our Friday Forums for 2019-2020 with a discussion on guardianship and alternatives to guardianship presented by Cristina Headley, Staff Attorney, Equip for Equality.
Cristina explained the difference between Guardianship of the Person and Guardianship of the Estate, as well as the difference between Limited and Plenary Guardianship. She also outlined the process for obtaining guardianship, duties of the guardian, and the rights that a person under guardianship retains.
And because guardianship should be considered only when absolutely necessary, alternatives to guardianship, including Power of Attorney for Health Care, Power of Attorney for Property, and Supported Decision-Making, were also discussed.
Thank you, Cristina, for sharing your time and knowledge with our group.
