Diane Gould, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, was the featured speaker at our January Friday Forum on Building Social Skills.
Developing and sustaining lasting friendships can be a struggle for those with autism spectrum disorders or other social and communication challenges. Using the strategies developed by the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERSĀ®), a unique, evidence-based social skills training intervention for adolescents and young adults, Diane shared different methods designed to strengthen the skills needed to appropriately interact and communicate with peers and others.
From starting a conversation and interpreting social cues to developing dating relationships and handling bullying, Diane provided some useful tips that families and professionals can use when working with their loved ones, clients and students.
Thank you to all who attended the seminar, and especially to Diane for her willingness to share her time and expertise with our group.
