Amy Clark and Lore Baker

Lore Baker, President and CEO of the Association for Individual Development (AID), and parent Amy Clark were the featured speakers at our sold-out February Friday Forum.

Discussing the creative housing concept of families owning or renting a home for their loved one while receiving separate, agency-provided support services, Amy shared her story of working with AID to provide needed services within the house where her adult son with Angelman Syndrome and high support needs is living with a roommate.

Noting that this model may be attractive to service providers who are not in a position to purchase additional real estate for a new CILA (Community Integrated Living Arrangement), both Lore and Amy discussed the importance of being flexible and respectful while building a strong working relationship. Finding a service provider who shares your vision and is willing to partner with you to achieve your goals is the key to success.

Thank you to Lore and Amy for their willingness to share their story with our families. We greatly appreciate all the hard work on both sides that goes into creating and managing this unique housing model.

CTC Educational Outreach events are offered in partnership with the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) and are paid for in part by community funding from Palatine Township. Thank you both for your support!
