Thank you to everyone who attended our first informational/volunteer event on February 17th. Our goal was to share the many things that Connect to Community is involved in and to map out where we want to go in the future. There are many potential areas for growth, but we need more people to become involved in order to take advantage of those opportunities.

There are many reasons to volunteer with Connect to Community. First and foremost, it’s rewarding; we’re helping to make the world a better place! But it’s also an opportunity to build friendships and support networks while learning how to tackle the many disability issues that parents face. It’s happy work! Come join us!

We are currently looking for people to help with:

CTC Creations – Our microbusiness is off to a great start and we’re just a few volunteers away from making it into something really special for our young adults seeking paid employment. Someone to generally oversee the business would be great or several people who would each be willing to take charge of one specific product.

Service Opportunities – We are always looking for ways for our young adults to give back to their community by volunteering their time. We need someone (or a couple people) to help us coordinate and expand our service opportunities because our young adults love to volunteer. We would also like to find a way to incorporate typical peers.

Fundraising – With help from the CTC Board, we are seeking individuals to coordinate our various fundraisers and to look for other opportunities to raise money for CTC.

Socials – Our goal is to arrange monthly community-based social events for our young adults and their families. Someone to manage social events as a whole or several people who would each agree to coordinate a specific event(s) would be appreciated. We would also like to find a way to incorporate typical peers into our social events.

Grant Seekers and Writers – We need help researching grant opportunities and preparing proposals in partnership with the CTC Board of Directors.

Community/Corporate Sponsors – We need people to identify and approach area businesses in pursuit of sponsors for our Customized Employment initiative. Our request would be a $4,500 sponsorship to cover the employment services for one job-seeker.

Computer/Technology Assistant – We could use help updating and cleansing our various databases, working on our Google Docs, and sending out employment eBlasts.

Public Relations – Can you help us publicize CTC events and services with greater efficiency by writing press releases or sending event information to the Daily Herald, etc.?

Professional Advisers– We would like to form an Advisory Board consisting of an accountant, an attorney, a website developer, etc., for consultation on an as-needed basis.

If you would like more information about helping CTC in one of these areas, or if you would like to contribute in another way, please contact us at ConnectToCommunityInc@gmail.com.

Many, many thanks to Dave Kunzweiler and Cabinets Plus (http://www.cabinetsplus.com) for allowing us to use their beautiful kitchen and bath showroom for our event and for providing the wonderful food and drink. We truly appreciate your generosity! Thanks also to Chef Lisa Bellan (http://www.feastofedencooksathome.com) for her terrific cooking demonstration. We all learned a thing or two and really enjoyed the tasty results!
