“Person-Centered Planning with a PATH” was the topic of our March Friday Forum which featured guest speaker Vicki Niswander, Executive Director of the Illinois Association of Microboards and Cooperatives.
PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) is a person-centered planning process that brings people together to address a common issue or concern. It is a way for a person with disabilities and members of their support circle to imagine the future and then to work backwards to develop an action plan that will make that future a reality.
Vicki discussed the steps involved in person-centered planning, discussed the importance that relationships play in the process, and then took attendees through an abbreviated PATH to demonstrate how the process works.
PATH is just one type of person-centered planning, which can also include MAPS (Making Action Plans), Essential Lifestyles Planning, and Personal Futures Planning.
Many thanks to Vicki for sharing her time and expertise with our group.
Friday Forum events are presented in partnership with the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) and are made possible in part by a grant from The Rotary Club of Palatine. Thank you both for your support.
